Bruce Bennett

Bruce Bennett has been the primary contributor to Mad About Movies since it began in 2003. He is an award winning film and theater critic who, since 2000, has been writing a weekly column in The Spectrum daily newspaper in southern Utah as well as serving as a contributing editor of “The Independent,” a monthly entertainment magazine. He is also the co-host of “Film Fanatics” a movie review show which earned a Telly in 2009. Bruce is also a featured contributor at: RottenTomatoes.com

Spielberg at his most intense

For those who didn’t understand the hype behind the so-called political thriller “Syriana” (a well-acted but highly convoluted mess), here is the real deal. Leave it to Steven Spielberg to create a nail-biting, intense, intelligent drama about the aftermath of the massacre of the Israeli athletes at the 1972 Olympics.
Gritty and compelling, the film transports the viewer unlike any other film in recent memory. And while Spielberg wisely sidesteps any moral grandstanding, he gives us a lot to think about while watching Mossad operatives hunt down and assassinate those they believe are responsible.

Grade: A
Rated R for violence, nudity, and sexual situations.
