The Intern

Sunny delight
Robert De Niro shines as a widowed, retired successful business exec who accepts an offer to work as an intern alongside the CEO (Anne Hathaway) of a fast-growing web-based clothing retailer. Old school sensibilities meet fast-paced realities in another Nancy Myers film that is both poignant and pleasant. The charisma of the leads is undeniable but look a little closer at the many astute observations going on here regarding the value of seniors, the challenges of a successful career woman, and the unlikely sources of genuine friendship. As relationship movies go, “The Intern” is a sunny but substantive delight. Who should see it: Born romantics who like refreshingly upbeat insight. Who should stay home: Cynics who need more edgy messiness. Grade: A-.
