August Rush

“August Rush” a cacophony of coincidence and contrivance

The excellent actors and good music make you think the movie will get better as it progresses, but it never does. Still, an updated “Oliver”-type story that works so hard to pour on the sweet sentiment will win some fans. The artistic opposite of the similarly themed and deservedly extolled “Once.”

Grade: C
Rated PG for some thematic elements, mild violence and language.
